When most people think of a coach they think of athletes. So let’s break that down first.
All athletes, no matter what age, have a coach. The coach teaches them the game, they teach them practice drills, they make sure the player is doing what they need to do in order to perform the best way they can. Yes, sometimes that means they have to be a little hard on the player. Sometimes it means they have to think of new ways to explain something so the player really understands the concept. They also cheer the player on, provide a shoulder to cry on when needed and are there through all the ups and downs the player experiences on their journey together.
Now, not all coaches are for athletes. The most successful companies in the world and the most successful entrepreneurs all have coaches as well.
A career coach is another type of coach that does many things similar to the athletic coach. A career coach starts from where you are and helps you to get to the career that you are dreaming of. Your coach checks in usually weekly with you, (sometimes more) to make sure you are doing what you need to do to reach your goals. Sometimes they are hard on you. They ask the hard questions that need to be asked that you don’t always want to answer. You may get mad at them from time to time but once you think about it and realize you are avoiding what your coach is making you face you have that breakthrough. The breakthrough is sweet. That is when the magic happens and you advance toward your goals.
A Career Coach is essential to anyone that wants to leap into a new career or expand to a new level in the career they are currently in. Your coach will be with you each step of the journey and will be invaluable to your success.
One thing to remember when you work with a coach though, is that you only get out what you put in. A coach doesn’t “do it” for you. They support you, encourage you, and make you step up and see what you don’t always want to see. They help you understand what you need to do to reach your goal. Then it is up to you to take the steps needed.
If you are interested in taking the next step in your career or even launching into a new career, I would love to help. Contact me today to set up a consult to see if we are a good fit to work together. (That is important also…you and your coach need to be a fit in order for a relationship to work and for you and the coach to get the most out of the experience.)
I look forward to coaching you in the future through my blogs as well!
