Spring is the time of year that most of us think of growth. It is when the first flowers pop up out of the ground, the leaves start to turn green again and the air is just a little warmer each day.
We open our windows and air out our house, we get out the cleaning supplies to “spring clean” and get out all the dreariness of winter.
It is also a time we tend to renew our selves as well. Maybe we start looking through some classes we are interested in taking, or we get outside and walk more since it is not so cold. Maybe even consider what we want to do in our career to expand it or even try something new.
When spring cleaning, whether your belongings, your house or yourself, there are a few questions you need to ask yourself.
- What is not serving you anymore?
- What are you holding on to just because you think you should or you think you might need it someday?
- Who are you listening to?
- What are you listening to?
- What is the Lord saying to you?
Let’s dig into this a little more for your career.
Are you holding onto clients that you aren’t happy working with just because of the money? What you need to understand is that when you let go of those clients that are draining your energy, you open space for new, amazing, clients to come in to work with you. If you are not happy, cut ties gracefully and move on to working with people that you enjoy.
Are you doing work that you don’t enjoy out of habit or because you think no one can do it like you? In this case, it may be a matter of trusting in other people and delegating. That is an easy step to take once you make the decision and have someone you trust to hand things off to. On the other hand, maybe you just don’t enjoy this career choice any longer and need to consider making a change. In that case, take the time to think about what you love doing, research how you can make a career out of that, and take the steps toward achieving it with an end date in mind for when you will be ready to leave your current job and begin your new career.
Now is the time to start “spring cleaning”. Begin by making time to pray for guidance. Initiate changes in your career to ensure you are moving ahead if that is your goal, or that you are moving to a new adventure if you feel drawn in this direction.
