I hope 2024 is off to a great start for you!

Do you have a vision for the direction your career will be going in this New Year? If you don’t, you want to put one in place right away.  It is important to have a vision and know what you want to accomplish.  This will allow you to plan your next moves and stay on track to reach your goals.

A vision is NOT a resolution.  There is a difference.  A resolution is easy to break.  People do it all the time.  I think it has something to do with the name! They pick something they think they should be doing differently (not necessarily something they WANT to do differently) and tell people they are going to change.  They go full force in January and then drop off with lack of interest.

For example, they may say “I’m going to post on social media every day on multiple channels” because someone told them that is what they need to do to grow their business. The reality though, is that they don’t enjoy social media, they think it is a waste of time to be on it and they don’t understand how to effectively manage all those platforms.

This is a resolution they won’t stick to because they have no interest in it.

Now, if they say instead “I have a vision of being more active on one social media platform to see how it can help my business” that is more achievable.  They are narrowing down to learning and focusing on only one platform, not several. They are not committing to posting every day either. The way they see things unfolding is to be more active, which could mean posting something, commenting on someone else’s post, sharing things you see that are interesting, and learning only one platform makes it less overwhelming so you still have time in your life. A Vision is something you WANT to do. You are placing a stake in the future.  The action steps and tasks will be the arms and legs of the vision.

Ready to map out your vision for 2024? Here is a great exercise to help you out.  Make the time to be quiet and still.  Pray and ask the Lord for guidance.  Write or type whatever you want.  This is for your eyes only unless you choose to share with others so be honest with yourself!  Don’t let your gremlin discount your heart’s desire or talk you out of it!

Q: What is my vision for 2024 – what do I desire to happen throughout the coming year related to my career or business?

Another good question is: It’s December 31, 2024.  What have I accomplished in my career or business?  Write in present tense.  As if it’s already happened.

Create a document or write in your journal…

Also, you may want to create a vision for other areas of your life (i.e., spiritual growth, finances, health/wellness, home environment, education, fun/recreation, family/friends, etc.).

Stay tuned next month to learn how to put a plan in place to reach your vision that you have outlined here. Remember…always have fun with this process.  It shouldn’t be hard.  It should be easy to answer if you are clear and fun to do.  If you are struggling with it at all, please reach out.  Sometimes it just takes a new perspective to help you iron out the details.
