We are a month into the new year. How are things going?
Are you on track with your goals still?
I invite you this month to do an exercise you may or may not have done in the past. I call it Composing the New Year. We Completed the Old last month and you had an opportunity to review 2018 and gain some insights. I hope you did.
Now, let’s design the new year! The key to this exercise is to write your answers in the present tense, as if they have already happened.
You want to train your brain to see these goals you have as something that is already there and accomplished. This will make it all seem easier because you are changing your thoughts to reflect these goals already happening rather than wanting something you don’t have yet.
Imagine it is December 31, 2019 and you are looking back over the year. I know you don’t want to be in the same spot you are now. So what do you want your life to look like?
Take a little time and honestly answer the following questions for yourself.
What have you accomplished in your…
- career
- health and wellness
- financial life
- spiritual journey
- furthering your education
- fun and recreation
- home improvements
Feel free to add any others to the list that I don’t mention. Remember this activity is for you and is designed to help you get clarity around what you want to achieve by the end of 2019 so that you can be proud of yourself and not frustrated that you spent another year spinning your wheels.
Next, month we will add some structure to your vision. Don’t miss it!
